Urbanista X — AR Urban Guide concept for Ulaanbaatar

The vision

Urbanista X is more than a digital guide. She is a warm, culturally grounded companion who walks with you through the streets of Ulaanbaatar. Using AR overlays, she shares layered stories — from ancient caravan routes and socialist-era planning decisions to emerging green corridors and community-led regeneration projects.

Designed first for solo travelers and curious locals, she combines real-time navigation, historical context, and playful scavenger hunts that invite people to imagine and care for the city’s possible futures.

The project sits at the intersection of human-centered urban design (inspired by Gehl principles), local knowledge, and accessible AR technology. It aims to deepen emotional connection to place — because people protect what they love.

Design Approach

Human-scale technology for a regenerative city

Urbanista X is built on the belief that the best digital tools for cities are the ones that help people fall in love with the physical places around them.

  • Deep local research into Ulaanbaatar’s urban morphology, public life, and community stories
  • Gehl-inspired focus on life between buildings and human experience over abstract “smart” metrics
  • Partnership with AR specialists to keep the technology invisible and the storytelling primary
  • Iterative testing with solo travelers and residents to ensure cultural resonance and emotional safety
